Hend Zaza is a 14-year-old girl from Syria. She is also the youngest table tennis player at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The young girl finished her first trip to the Olympic Games after losing a match (比赛) in Tokyo.
On July 24, 2021, Zaza lost her match with Chinese-Austrian table tennis player Liu Jia. “It is amazing for her to do something like this at such a young age. But she needs a better place for training,” said Liu. According to China Central Television (CCTV), Zaza would come to China for training in September, 2021.
China’s world champion Ding Ning is Zaza’s favorite player. “I’m looking forward to training in China. And I want to be better and stronger at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games,” Zaza said.
Born in 2009 in Syria, Zaza first started to play table tennis at the age of 5. When she was 7 years old, she showed great talent for the sport. But Syria is not a safe place to train as a table tennis player. “It’s difficult to train in Syria because of the war, but I will fight for it,” she said. “Try hard, and you will be successful one day.”
