   On Saturday morning, every boy in town was happy, except Tom Sawyer. Tom’s aunt gave him a task of painting their fence. It was 30 yards long and three yards high. He painted one board and surveyed his progress, and then he sat down to have a rest.

    Tom began to think of the games that he wanted to play. He knew the boys who were free would soon come along and make fun of him. Just then, he had an idea. He picked up his brush and went back to work.

课文复述

        This is one of the humorous stories from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. On Saturday morning, while the other boys were playing happily, Tom had to paint a fence of 30 yards long and three yards high. He knew the boys would come along and laugh at him. Then he had an idea to trick them into painting the fence for him.  Ben came along with an apple in hand. He made fun of Tom. But Tom pretended that painting the fence was not hard work but fun. Ben offered him the apple to get a chance to paint. When Ben got tired, Billy was waiting. He gave Tom a kite. Then Johnny Miller offered Tom two toy soldiers. Soon Tom had got many new toys, and the fence got three coats of paint. How clever Tom was!
