(2022·福建省南平市教师进修学院(南平市教育科学研究院、南平市普通教育教学研究室)模拟预测)On May 11, Academician Zhong Nanshan said in an International Nurses’ Day blessing video: “I have been engaged (从事) in clinical (临床的) medical work for more than 60 years, and I have always firmly believed that medical treatment can’t be separated from nursing.” Nowadays, nurses and doctors are called “angels in white” together.

Ms. Florence Nightingale, the founder of nursing, was born in Italy on May 12, 1820.

She got the nickname “The Lady with the Lamp” during the Crimean war. Every night, Nightingale would make rounds through the hospitals to check on the men with a small lamp in her hands.

Today, “Nightingale” has become a symbol of the spirit of nurses who burn themselves and illuminate (照亮) others. So Nightingale’s birthday became International Nurses’ Day in 1974.

Nurses account for more than half of all the world’s health workers. Historically, as well as today, nurses are at the forefront (最前线) of fighting epidemics (传染病) and pandemics (全球大流行病)-providing high quality and respectful treatment and care.

The Covid-19 pandemic reminds everyone what a vital role nurses play. They are safeguarding the lives of thousands of people on the front line of the fight against the novel coronavirus (新冠病毒) with their own lives. They have deep dents(凹痕) in their skin due to the tightly fastened (紧束) masks, but in fact, the covering couldn’t hide their beauty. Without nurses and other health workers, we will not win the battle against outbreaks.

Salute (向……致敬) all the nurses who protect life in the name of love.
