专题07 阅读理解20篇

On June 17th, 2021, both the European Space Agency and Roscosmos used the word “taikonauts” to congratulate(祝贺)China on sending three “taikonauts” on their Shenzhou Ⅻ mission(任务)to outer space.

With the Greek word “naut”, which means sailor, and “taiko”, the Chinese word for space, the word “taikonauts” is used for Chinese astronauts.

Yet “taikonauts” is more than just a word. Its history shows that of China’s space journey. Started in 1992, the manned spacecraft engineering(载人航天工程)of China was far behind the USA and Russia in the beginning. Six years later, a Chinese Malaysian, used it first in a piece of news on the Internet. However, back then few people picked up on it, as China was still rather weak at that time. The word did not become widely known until 2003. It was when China sent Yang Liwei, the first taikonaut into space by Shenzhou Ⅴ.

Since 1998, China has had 34 trained taikonauts. Behind these taikonauts, thousands of other workers do their jobs to get the taikonauts into space and make sure of their safe return. The great efforts of everyone in this project has made “taikonauts” from just a word on the paper into the reality(现实). So all of them should share the honor. The meanings of the word will be further developed and we hope more taikonauts will appear.

BEIJING, March 14 (Xinhua)—China has completed feasibility studies of the fourth stage of its lunar (月球的) exploration program and is expected to build an international lunar research station on the moon’s south pole in the future, said Wu Weiren, the chief designer of China’s lunar exploration program.

In an interview with China Space News, Wu said that three missions are planned for the fourth stage of the lunar exploration program. The program includes taking back lunar samples from the south pole by Chang’e-6, a detailed survey of the moon’s south pole resources by Chang’e-7, and the testing of key technologies in preparation for the construction(建设) of the lunar research station by Chang’e-8.

Wu explained that there may be a polar day and night on the moon’s south pole, like Earth’s north and south poles. The moon’s rotation period is equal to its revolution period, both of which are 28 days. Therefore, there may be more than 180 consecutive(连续的) days of light on the moon’s south pole, which would be highly convenient for astronauts carrying out scientific research.

On Tuesday, China and Russia signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to build an international scientific research station on the moon.

Wu said that within the MOU framework, China and Russia would use their experience in space science, research and development, and their space equipment and technology. The two countries will jointly make a roadmap for the construction of an international lunar research station, carrying out close cooperation in the planning, demonstration, design, development, implementation and operation of the project, Wu noted.
